We’re so excited to find out Heartstart Lymm CIC is now part of the @Coopuk Local Community Fund.
Heartstart Lymm is a community-led initiative dedicated to providing free, essential first aid training to residents of Lymm and surrounding areas. Established in late 2012, the programme was initiated by members of the Lymm & District Round Table and Lymm Ladies Circle, in collaboration with the British Heart Foundation (BHF). The aim was to equip the community with vital life-saving skills, including CPR, defibrillator use, and emergency response techniques.
In its early days, we kept our kit at the Lymm Round Table Store and delivered our courses at Lymm Baptist Church—a truly welcoming venue. Both facilities were generously provided free of charge, reflecting the strong community spirit behind the initiative.
Heartstart Lymm initially focused on delivering BHF-accredited courses and strategically installing Public Access Defibrillators (AEDs) throughout the village. With support from the Lymm Parish Council and Lymm Round Table, the initiative successfully deployed multiple AED units, enhancing emergency preparedness in the area.
In recognition of our efforts, Heartstart Lymm was awarded the Gold Cardiac Smart Award by North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) in 2014, highlighting our commitment to community cardiac care.
Following the COVID-19 pandemic, the British Heart Foundation ceased supporting community first aid courses. In response, Heartstart Lymm transitioned to training under the Royal Lifesaving Society, ensuring the continuation of accessible, high-quality lifesaving education.
In 2024, we were honoured to receive a supporting grant from the Police and Crime Commissioner, Dan Price, which has helped us further expand and sustain our community training programmes.
Over the years, the programme has expanded its reach, offering monthly training sessions to the general public and quarterly courses tailored for Scout Leaders and youth organisations. These sessions are now held at venues like Safety Central in Lymm and are facilitated by a dedicated team of volunteer trainers.
In August 2022, Heartstart Lymm formalised its operations by registering as a Community Interest Company (CIC), reinforcing its commitment to community health and safety.
Today, Heartstart Lymm continues to empower individuals with the knowledge and confidence to act swiftly in emergencies, fostering a safer and more resilient community.
At Heartstart Lymm, we are incredibly proud of what our small, dedicated team of volunteers has accomplished in service to our community. Since our founding in 2012, we have steadily grown into a trusted local provider of free, life-saving first aid training—empowering hundreds of people with the skills to make a difference in critical moments.

We’re especially proud of the transformational impact our training has had—helping ordinary people become extraordinary responders. From parents and teachers to teenagers and retirees, our participants leave more confident, empowered, and ready to act in emergencies. The community feedback we receive is consistently heartwarming, and we’re inspired by the stories of people putting their training into action.
